Quantum compilation is the process of translating a quantum algorithm into an executable sequence of operations on real hardware, subject to constraints of qubit connectivity, gate sets, noise, error mitigation and error correction. This seminar offers a broad, research-oriented introduction to the quantum compilation stack, moving from foundational compiler concepts to current state of the art in compilation techniques.
Topics covered include circuit synthesis and unitary decomposition, qubit mapping and routing, gate scheduling and circuit depth optimisation, and noise-aware compilation techniques, before turning to machine-learning-assisted compilation. As a teaser we provide a short introduction to the basic of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing eventually closing the seminar with circuit cutting and compilation strategies for distributed quantum computing.
