We are pleased to announce that our team’s paper, “Solving an industrially relevant quantum chemistry problem on quantum hardware,” has been selected by IOP Publishing for a special collection highlighting standout research published in 2025 by researchers based in Germany.
The study, authored by Ludwig Nützel and collaborators and published in Quantum Science and Technology, demonstrates how trapped-ion quantum hardware can be used to solve active space Hamiltonians for complex, strongly correlated metal chelates (such as Fe(III)-NTA). By combining a novel, measurement-efficient variational quantum algorithm with classical subspace diagonalization, the team successfully achieved chemical accuracy within a practical industrial quantum chemistry workflow.
IOP Publishing chose the paper for its significant impact and contribution to bridging the gap between quantum algorithms and real-world industrial applications. The collection is featured under the open access framework supported by the TIB (Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology) and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).
